The old cabinetry was worn-out, and we were tired of the strong faux-wood patterns in it and in the countertops… And, we needed to get rid of that old wallpaper! Even with new lighting and tile flooring, this was a very simple, but dramatic, renovation at minimal cost. (Notice that we did not even replace any appliances.) The totally new peninsula made great use of otherwise wasted space, got the microwave oven off the main countertop and gave us a little more storage, too. We chose a more tasteful wallpaper scheme and, adding a chair rail, extended it around the entire kitchen and dining area.
